Locate Geauga County Safety Center Inmates

Geauga County Safety Center is the county-operated jail for local detention in Geauga County, Ohio. To look up inmates at Geauga County Safety Center, use the jail information line first because the sheriff website does not publish a verified public roster. Visitation, mail, commissary, phone, and records questions all route through the Safety Center and sheriff records channels.

Geauga County Safety Center Overview

The Geauga County Safety Center is the only detention facility verified in the facility map. It is a full-service county jail operated by the Geauga County Sheriff's Office in Chardon. It holds pretrial detainees, people sentenced by Chardon Municipal Court or Geauga County Common Pleas Court, court-order violators, work-release and community-service inmates, immigration detainees, and people held for outside agencies.

The facility opened to inmates on December 28, 2005, when 47 inmates moved from the former linear jail at 13281 Ravenna Road to the Merritt Road Safety Center. That history is useful for old references, but current jail business uses the Merritt Road address. The sheriff identifies the active Safety Center as the place for visitation, mail, commissary, phone, medical, PREA, and Corrections contact.

The Safety Center name should be used in current custody copy because it is the official facility name in the sheriff materials. The mail format still uses "C/O Geauga County Jail" at the Merritt Road address. Those two labels point to the same active local detention facility, not to a separate jail building.

Safety Center Capacity Population

The sheriff publishes a rated capacity of 182 beds. The bed split is 38 female beds, 84 general-population male beds, and 60 male Community Service or Work Release beds. In 2024, the Safety Center received and processed 2,087 prisoners. That count included local new charges, court-order violations, local sentences, immigration detainees, outside-county inmates, and arraignments.

Who Is Held Here

The Geauga County Safety Center population is broader than recent local arrests. The sheriff's 2024 processing count included 1,560 local new-charge, court-order-violation, and municipal or Common Pleas sentence cases; 319 immigration detainees; 37 Cuyahoga County inmates; 16 Ashtabula County inmates; 10 Mayfield inmates; one Hunting Valley inmate; 11 other-agency holds; and 133 arraignments.

This mix affects inmate lookup. A local misdemeanor may appear in Chardon Municipal Court. A felony may move to Geauga Common Pleas. An immigration custody question may require ICE ODLS. A sentenced Ohio prison transfer is searched through ODRC. A federal sentenced inmate is searched through BOP. If physical custody at the Safety Center is suspected, the Corrections line remains the first local check.

Lookup Safety Center Inmates

No verified official public roster was found for Geauga County Safety Center inmates. The correct county-jail lookup path is therefore the phone and records-request chain, paired with court and state or federal locators when the case has moved beyond local jail custody.

  1. Call Corrections at (440) 279-2009 ext. 4411 and ask whether the person is currently held, released, transferred, or held for another agency.
  2. Search Chardon Municipal Court for municipal criminal, traffic, and preliminary matters.
  3. Search Geauga Common Pleas eServices for felony, indictment, and bind-over records.
  4. Use ODRC Offender Search for sentenced Ohio prison or supervision status.
  5. Use BOP for federal sentenced custody and ICE ODLS for immigration custody.
  6. Request non-live jail or booking records through the sheriff records-request page.

The Geauga County Sheriff OH mobile app is documented in the Apple and Google app stores as a public-safety communication tool with news, tips, crime reporting, and interactive features. The research did not verify an app-only jail roster, warrant search, mugshot gallery, booking feed, or records-request portal. The app can be mentioned as a sheriff communication channel, but it should not be used as the Safety Center inmate locator.

Safety Center Address Contact

The Safety Center and sheriff's office share the Merritt Road address published in the sheriff contact materials. The Corrections extension is the relevant jail-information line for custody, visitation, attorney or clergy instructions, and third-party PREA routing to the supervisor on duty.

Safety Center Booking Intake

A standard local arrest moves through transport to the Safety Center, intake search, identity collection, property handling, medical and mental-health screening, booking record creation, classification, phone access, and court or bond processing. The official medical section says inmates receive routine health care and emergency care. Sick call is conducted five days a week by medical staff, including a physician and registered nurses.

Mental-health services are locally specific. Ravenwood Mental Health Center provides crisis intervention for mental-health emergencies, and a Ravenwood psychiatrist evaluates referred inmates bi-weekly. Dental care is available through On Site Dental, Inc., and serious emergencies can result in transfer to University Hospitals Geauga Regional Hospital.

Safety Center Programs Conditions

The sheriff publishes separate jail programs and chaplain program pages, and the facility has 60 male beds assigned to Community Service or Work Release. PREA reporting is also documented. The sheriff states a zero-tolerance standard for sexual abuse and sexual harassment and applies it to personnel, volunteers, interns, and contract personnel with inmate contact.

Inmates can report PREA concerns verbally, in writing through request form or kite, or by letter to the Sheriff at the Merritt Road address. Non-inmates and third parties can call (440) 279-2009 ext. 4411 and ask for the supervisor on duty, or use the outside hotline at (440) 286-8074.

The medical section adds concrete conditions context. Sick call runs five days a week through jail medical staff, and the facility lists physician and registered-nurse involvement. Corrections officers receive CPR and AED training, along with training on seizures, blood-borne pathogens, suicide prevention, and other care situations. These details are facility-specific and should not be replaced by generic jail program language.

Note: Confirm custody, visitation status, and mail rules with the Safety Center before travel or deposits because facility needs can change quickly.
